Groups meet to share common experiences to alleviate feelings of shame and isolation. The sharing of common experiences breaks these barriers and inspires self-understanding as each person learns to identify unhealthy patterns and develop healthy alternatives.

Intensive Outpatient Flexible programs that allow individuals to continue their everyday activities such as work or school. The programs include three or four sessions during the week and a multi-family session on Saturday. The intensive outpatient programs combine group therapy, meals, experiential therapy, meal planning, psychoeducation, and family therapy. Ideal for clients who require a more structured program to interrupt their symptom use.
Intensive Day Program Meets Monday through Saturday for three to seven hours per day and combines group therapy, meals, experiential therapies, meal planning, psychoeducation, alternative therapies and family therapy
The Intensive Day Program emphasizes maximal involvement of the individual's family and/or significant other. The family is involved in the psychoeducation group which provides an understanding of the various components of the eating disorder. The family is also expected to attend the dinner and group therapy session one evening a week as well as lunch and group therapy on Saturdays.
Ideal for people who need intensive treatment, support, and structure.
The level of support and therapeutic involvement within the Intensive Day Program is meant to help individuals overcome obstacles to recovery, gain new and healthier coping skills, and achieve their individual treatment goals.
Group Therapy/Support Groups Groups meet to share common experiences to alleviate feelings of shame and isolation. The sharing of common experiences breaks these barriers and inspires self-understanding as each person learns to identify unhealthy patterns and develop healthy alternatives. Intended for medically unstable patients.
Family Therapy Family therapy sessions explore and improve long-standing patterns of communication between family members. These sessions provide awareness of common issues and roles and help the individual with the eating disorder to recover. Affected family members also receive support.

Ideal for individuals who need substantial support and structure over a longer period of time to be successful in fighting their eating disorder.

Adolescent and Adult Females

Phase 2: Weekly 3-hour sessions for eight weeks.

Participants learn to manage stress, decrease episodes of binge eating, and help change their thinking about food, weight and self-esteem through what is called cognitive behavioral therapy. Cognitive behavioral therapy combines two powerful tools – therapy that addresses how people think with how they react – to stop symptoms and get lives back on track.
Phase I:

Phase II: Optional and designed for those who need additional support and reinforcement of skills from Phase 1

Program Description

Patient Demographics
Support Groups We host weekly support groups for members of the community who are struggling to recover from an eating disorder.Friends and family members are also welcome to attend. We follow the curriculum of ANAD, and we also get referrals from ANAD. Anyone affected by an eating disorder or body image issues is welcome. Friends and family members are welcome as well.
Extended Supportive Programming The extended support program is designed to give members the opportunity to socialize in a safe and supportive environment, to teach them skills which they can use for the recovery process, and to encourage them to reach out to others. The program is designed to mimic some of the important features of an intensive outpatient program (minus the individual therapy and specific meal planning, because we are not licensed to provide those services).

PLANNED ACTIVITIES INCLUDE: Yoga, self-defense classes, dance classes, kickboxing, and other physical activity, museum trips, movie nights, classes on basic nutrition, inspirational speakers, classes on assertiveness skills and building self-esteem, arts & crafts classes (knitting and crocheting, for example, are great ways to focus attention elsewhere during times when one might otherwise binge and purge), group volunteer opportunities for working with other organizations, regular group dining experiences followed by group activities
For those who are medically stable and wish to focus on physical activity that involves appreciating a strong body as opposed to simply burning calories, for those who are looking for healthy activities to avoid isolation, and for those who feel that eating with supportive people will be helpful.
Recovery-Support Online Message Boards Our Message Boards, located at www.joyprojectonline.com give people in recovery the ability to chat with other people in recovery to support each other, give and receive feedback, share helpful information, and challenge each other to continue to fight their eating disorder. Features include: Option to create a personal online diary, daily challenge projects, weekly "Challenge Food Challenge" contests, interactive polls, and permanent threads with useful info and links to more information
