This group involves the active learning
and practice of behavioral skills geared
to assist with coping with emotions, parental involvement is required.

Phase 2: Weekly 3-hour
sessions for eight weeks.
Participants
learn to manage stress, decrease episodes of binge eating, and help

combines two powerful tools – therapy that addresses how
people think with how they react – to stop symptoms and get
lives back on track.

|
We host weekly
support groups for members of the community who are struggling to
recover from an eating disorder.Friends
and family members are also welcome to attend. We follow the curriculum

family members are welcome as well.

|
Extended
Supportive Programming
|
The extended
support program is designed to give members the opportunity to
socialize in a safe and supportive environment, to teach them skills
which they can use for the recovery process, and to encourage them to
reach out to others. The program is designed to mimic some of the
important features of an intensive outpatient program (minus the
individual therapy and specific meal planning, because we are not
licensed to provide those services).
PLANNED
ACTIVITIES INCLUDE: Yoga, self-defense classes, dance classes,
kickboxing, and other
physical activity, museum trips,
movie nights, classes on basic nutrition, inspirational speakers,
classes on assertiveness skills and building self-esteem, arts
& crafts classes (knitting and crocheting, for example, are
great ways to focus attention elsewhere during times when one might
otherwise binge and purge), group volunteer
opportunities for working with other organizations, regular group
dining experiences followed by group activities
|
For those who
are medically stable and wish to focus on physical activity that
involves appreciating a strong body as opposed to simply burning
calories, for those who are looking for healthy activities to avoid
isolation, and for those who feel that eating with supportive people
will be helpful.
